Fairness: pure random uses an unbiased Fisher-Yates shuffle with crypto-secure randomness when available. For different levels, a greedy balance algorithm assigns highest levels first to the teams with the lowest totals, ties are broken randomly.
How can I make fair teams?
Build your teams with the team generator from Cogitans. Enter the participants and their skill levels, then choose the team count and weighted mode. The heuristic assigns higher skill levels first, then puts each participant into an available team with a low total. Random selection breaks ties. Add 23 fictional participants P01 to P23 with repeating skill levels 1 to 5. Request four weighted teams with equal sizes enabled. Team sizes are 6, 6, 6 and 5. Each participant appears once. Skill totals may still differ.
Practical questions
How can I split participants into workshop groups?
The Cogitans team generator divides a participant list into groups. Enter the names, choose the number of groups and use random mode when skill levels do not matter. The equal team sizes option keeps the headcount difference to one person, helping you organise classroom activities, training sessions or workshops.
How can I split players into teams without leaving anyone out?
Enter every participant and enable equal team sizes. If the total does not divide evenly, some teams will have one extra player. For example, 23 people in four teams gives groups of 6, 6, 6 and 5.
How can I stop one team from being much stronger than the others?
Rate every participant on the same skill scale, then choose weighted mode. The tool tries to spread skill levels across teams; the result depends on your ratings and does not guarantee equal strength.
Skill levels are estimates you provide. This heuristic does not guarantee the mathematical optimum or balance friendships and roles.
